Design Team: Allan Curran Architects

This new complex was designed with ecological principles in mind. The main spaces in the building faced south to make the most of the sun’s heat and light, while stores and wet rooms had small windows and were located on the north side. A passive stack natural ventilation system was used rather than an expensive mechanical ventilation system, allowing rising warm air to escape naturally.

Construction consisted of the levelling of the proposed site, which was excavated in rock; pad and strip foundations; a structural steel portal frame together with concrete first floor; insulated Kingspan roof cladding and roof lights; insulated rendered cavity walls and reinforced power floated concrete floors. Electrically operated roller shutter doors were installed together with aluminium window and door units. The building was finished off to a very high specification. Fixtures & fittings, with extensive landscaping were carried out along with designated staff & customer car parking.
